WAKEFIELD.

(From "The Colonist, 1' Feb. 23.) < Wakefield has lost another useful resident in the person of the late Miss Frances Aplin Haultain, who has boon i-esiding with her sister, Mrs. C. C. ' Wood, and her aunt, Miss Bell, at "Asgard," Wakefield. Deceased was J greatly interested in church and mis-P sionary work and the welfare of the Maoris. For 28 years she taught in bhe Auckland Grammar School, then at Waiotapu, near Rotorua, and finally at i ] Dkaha, Pelorus Sound. She was very ( fond of children, and a great favourite with them, assisting in the Sunday J school and in the Bible class in the day school. She was generous almost to a ] fault. She died at the age of 65, after i few months 'illnesjs. Her brother, < Captain Haultain, is at present in the i Hospital owing to an injury to his leg < sustained while getting into the Port i 'bus. Mrs. Kisslmg and Miss Grant, of the Wanganui College, who came iver to see deceased, stayed to the funeral. She was ) 'id to rest in st.
