STRIKE SEQUEL.

A WELLINGTON YOUTH WHO WAS

INJURED

TO BE COMPENSATED BY THE

GOVERNMENT.

(Special to "The Colonist/)

Wellington, Oct. 8

Durinc a strike riot in Wellington on November 3rd, 1913, a youth named Arthur John Dockery was shot in the shoulder. He petitioned Parliament to be compensated for his injuries, and the Public Petitions Conunitttee recommends that ho be paid all medical costs, expenses, and personal loss incurred owing to the injury. The committee adds that there is no evidence to show by whom the shot was fired.

When the report was received this afternoon, the Prime Minister remarked that he believed Dockery was a perfectly respectable young fellow v;ho !m»l nothing to do with the riotere. The Government intended consequently to give effect to the committee's recommendation.

''That goes against the Commissioner of Police, who reported that the'petitioner was one of the rioters," declared Mr Atmore, who had charge of the petition. The report was adopted.
