Chrlstohurch, Oct. 8. Some speculation is being indulged in by legal, land agency, and business men in town regarding the absence from Christchurch of a gentleman who has carried on business as a land agent for many years and is also a member of the l<*gal profession. There is no allegation that the K©ntleman's somewhat lengthy absence from town is not capable of a perfectly satisfactory explanation, but so far none has been obtained. The known facts in connection with the matter are few. It appears that about a week ago, possibly ten days ago, the business man referred to left for the North Island for the purpose, so it is understood, of inspecting some land in which he was interested. Tho period haying elapsed during which he proposed to be away from Christchnrch, and tho tact that he has no.t returned, have given rise to some concern as to his whereabouts. The gentleman referred to ha,s been in business in Christchurch for many Tears, and is highly spoken of both as a legal practitioner and as a business man. ...
