STRATFORD-WHANGAMOMONA RAILWAY.

Whangamomona, July 1
The formal opening of the- StratfordMain Trunk railway to Whangamomona took place this afternoon. _ The Minister for Railways (Mr Herries) performed tho ceremony. There was a large gathering of settlers and visitors. The line is now available for regular passenger traffic for a distance of 37 miles from Stratford.
Beyond the present terminus construction work is in hand for a distance of seven miles. Further on there is a 'stretch of extremely, difficult country to be negotiated before a junction can be effected with the line which is in course of construction from the North Island Main Trunk railway at Okahukura.
