PROMOTIONS AND TRANSFERS

Wellington, Feb. 10. Important new regulations in regard to the .administration'and control of the police force .wili .appear,. in a supplementary Gazette tomorrow. : One of these deal withthe ;perspntiel. / Owing to the growth of the "work at the four chief centres; ?the inspeetore are unable to devote as much, time to supervision as. is desirable, and .to remedy this it is proposed >(the Minister of Justice said .tOriiight) ,to. make jtlie; chief police officers in the four chief o&ntres—lnspectors Ellison, Kiejy, Mitchell and Dwyer —superintendents,, and the following promotions and transfers will i?ake place in consequence of the changeSri'rahk of the, present inspectors:1 - Sub-Inspector *Hendry will come to Wellington, and act as* inspector•■" under -Superintendent Ellison: sub-Inspector McGrath, of Chi'istcnurch, will go to Auckland as inspector under Superintendent Mitchell^ Senior-Sergeants Johnston and. McKmnon will be promoted to the rank of sub-inspectors, and will take the place of the^sub-inispectors who are being promoted, Senior^Sergeant Johnston going; to Auckland, and SeniorSergeant McKinnon going to Christchureli. There are a numbar of vacancies in the ranks of the «ergeants caused by deriths; retirements and promotions. Thehe will.be filled shortly, and probably ■" before tfe end of the present "■month there .will Ife increases of pay in various" grades of i'tlie: service, which, with the changes mentioned, will come into force on April Ist.
