THE PROMISE TO OBEY

[Pbess Association—Copyeioht.]

London, Jan 14

Mr Victor Duval and Miss Anna Dugdale, a niece of Viscount Peel and a prominent suffragist, were married in the Chapel Royal. The bride had intended to omit the promise to obey but the Archbishop of Canterbury, on reading tho announcement in the newspapers, informed the Chaplain that the- omission would render the validity of the marriage doubtful. The Chaplain accordingly stated from the altar that he was obliged to read the complete service, though he hoped tho law would be reformed.
