THE LATE SERGEANT MAGUIRE

Wellington, April 14. The late Sergeant Maguire was 41 years of ago. He was a member of the force for 16 years. He served at Dunedin for some time, and 12 years ago came to Wellington. • Until the end of last month he did duty in the <i'B--trieb office where he had attained the position of chief clerk. Four years ago he was' promoted to the rank oi sergeant. He had the reputation of being a zealous and efficient officer. When he left for Palmerston a few days "ago he was. accorded a hearty send off by all sections, of the force here.> It was Tioped that his health, •Which had not been too good of late, \vx)uld benefit by, fresh air outdoor work. The body was broifght to' Wellington this afternoon. - ..:■:. -:\ 10.20 p.m. The funeral of the late Sergeant Maguire will probably take<-place at Wellington on Sunday afternoon.
