OBITUARY.

There passed peacefully, away yesterday afternoon another of Nelson's early and respected, settlers in the person of Mrs Ann Gray, relict of the late Captain Robert Gray, who pre-deceased her 20 years ago. Deceased was in her 82nd year, and until quite recently enjoyed the best of health. She was known for 'her kindly disposition and hold in high esteem for her many good qualities. The late Mrs- Gray arrived in New Plymouth by the ship Carnatic in 1853, and for a short time waa stewardess on the ship Nelson, eventually 'taking up her abode in the Wood, Nelson, in 1854, where she lived for many years. Deceased leaves three daughters and one son surviving, viz., Mrs Wm Spencer (Nelson), -Mrs G. Armstrong (Akaroa), Mrs J? M., Calder (Nelson), and Mr Robert Gray (Wanganui), besides thirty-one grandchildren, and nineteen great grandchildren, who will have the kindly sympathy of many friends in their bereavement.

Mr Charles Teece, ' a well-known settler of Moutere, died very suddenMr Teece was engaged on the morning of that day "carting gravel. He had a companion, and each was engaged filling their respective carts, when the companion found that Mr Teece had fainted. He recovered, and said that he would work the feeling'off, but his mate insisted on filling tlie cart, arid Mr .Teece drove away, but evidently .. had another seizure, though he did not fall from the cart. Arrived at his home lie was taken to the house, and medical aid was summoned, but he died before the arrival of the doctor. Our informant left Moutere before the opinion of the doctor as to the cause of death was! made/ known, but apparently death was due to a seizure of an apoplectic nature. It is said that Mr Teeoe had been complaining of Jiis head for some time past. Deceased was highly respected, and well known over a. wide area. He .at. various times carried , out important works for the Waimea County Council.
