COMPENSATION CASE.

[United Press Association.] Christchurch, Feb. 18. A case in which the Canterbury College Board of Governors claimed £3813 compensation from the Minister for Public Works for land taken for Midland Railway purposes, was argued at the Supreme Court tins morning. The case concerned a grant of land made by the Crown for purposes of higher education. Mr Alpers contended for the College that the Crown's right to take the land for a road had lapsed, because it had not been exercised within five years of the date of the grant. '• Mr Stringer, K.C., for the Minister, argued that right to take, the land for a road had not lapsed, and that the right included the right to take the land for the railway. Judgment was reserved.
