GARDEN PARTY AT RICHMOND.

Favoured by glorious weather a largo party assembled in the beautiful grounds of Mrs Saywtsll oh Wednesday last. Early in the afternoon quite a stream of people wore seen 'wending their way to Queen street, the attraction beiug the function organised by the Methodist Church ofhcials, and evidently more than one of them had been engaged earlier in the day in making the necessary preparations. Sports of all kinds, including tennis, croquet, quoits, and ping-pong, were arranged for, and heartily entered into by the guests. Tho promised balloon flight was a failure, owing to circumstances over which even the doctor had no control. Selections on a splendid phonograph kindly lent by Mr Glen were much appreciated. A sumptuous tea was provided by tho ladies of the congregation. Representatives were present from all parts of the district, including many from Nelson, and the sum of £-5 13s Gd was the financial result.
