MENT ARRANGEMENTS

The Mayor stated at the City Council meeting last night that His Excellency the Governor had intimated to him his intention of paying a farewell visit to Nelson. It was Xord Plunket' s intention to remain in Nelson from the 19th to the 23rd inst.

The Town Clerk stated that His Excellency would leave Wellington on the- 14th inst, • reaching Nelson ori'the 15th, when he would proceed immediately to Motueka. On the 16th he would visit Collingwood, returning to Motueka on. the 18th, and coming on to Nelson on the following day.

Bishop Mules wrote, stating that, subject to the Council's arrangements, Mrs Mules proposed to hold a garden party at Bishopdale, at which His Excellency had consented to be present, on Tuesday, 22nd inst, from 3.30 to 6 p.m. Miss Nina Jones ; secretary of the Suter Art Gallery, informed the Council that Lord Plunket had consented to unveil the Huria Matenga memorial portrait at the Gallery on Monday, ■24th inst, at 4 p.m. The Council decided to fall in with these arrangements.-

A draft address of welcome to be presented to His Excellency was read by the Town Clea'k and approved.

The -Mayor said it would be necessary to make arrangements as soon as possible for the official welcome of tho Governor to the city, and for his entertainment while here,. He suggested that a special meeting of the Council be held for the purpose on Tuesday next at 3 p.m., at which the Bishop and clergy of the city, volunteer officers, friendly society officers, the chairmen of the Towns Schools Committee and the Retailers' Association, members of Parliament, members of public bodies and citizns interested should be invited to be present. This course was adopted by the Council.
