WOMEN IN POLITICS.
LABOUR CONFERENCE DEBATE. [Press Association— Copvrioht.] Sydney, Feb 2. At the sessions of the Political Labour Conference the Women's Organisation Committee of the local bran -n recommended an amendment of the State Constitution to enable women to sit in Parliament and be eligible as iurorß, magistrates and judges. The Platform Committee recommended the rejection of the- motion, as it was undesirable to cast any further burdens on women. One woman characterised the male members as narrow miiul. .!, and deserving of a good "slating.' bjie said that women only asked for what men had promised them— equality and opportunity. She urged the Conference to practice what it preached. A male member stated that there had been 25 pen- cent more divorces since women had received the franchise. It was woman's place to i« ok after the comfort of her husband, instead of wasting time over parliaments and municipal councils. # A number of women oxcitedly denounced this "insult,", while another woman thought that there were too many old women in Parliament alrealy without them seeking to get more there. The debate was adjourned.
