NELSON PRIVINCIAL SCOTTISH SOCIETY.
Tho St. Andrew's night dinner of ' this Society was held at the Trocadero last night, when there was a ' very large assemblage present. Tl'.a | chair was taken by Chief Barrowman, who was supported by ex-Chief . Allan. After participating of a firstclass repast, which included a large number of Scotch dishes, a toast list • comprised as follows was proceeded with: — "Tho King," by the eh.-iir-man; "St. Andrew," by the chairman, who gave a very instructive speech, responded to by Mr Allan ; '. "Nelson Provincial Scottish Society," proposed by Mr F, Fairey, responded to by Mr Barrmvnmii ; "Old firoti land," proposed by Mr F. W. Ha-ni- , ilton, responded to by Mr J. Ingram; "Land of Our Adoption," pro- . posed by Mr Mac Loan, responded to by Mr J. Neil; "Tho Ladies," proposed by Mr T. Robb, responded to , by Mr Preen; "Messrs Mackie and Co," proposed by Mr Tyson, responded to by Mr Cresswell ; "Visiting Friends," proposed by Mr Easdalo, . responded to by .Mr Trathen ; "Tlie IHpers," pro-r>ose<l by Cliief Barrowman. responded to by Mr Hethorington : and "Tho Press," proposed by Mr McKec Wright and responded to by press representatives. The toasts wore interspersed with harmony, the pipers' brmd sharing a large part, and this band played a number of selections outside prior to the gathering ■ assembling. i
