; On Saturday ovcning last the AYak- ' atu Mounted Rifles held a very suc- \ cessful and instructive all night paI rade on the Tapawera plains on Mr . Geo. Macmahon's property. Horse v foed and rations were carried by tlio. I troopers who bivouacked and carried ! out outpost work. There was a muster of nearly forty and the work was conducted by the officers. The men were greatly interested, and hope be- . fore the volunteer year terminates to : have other similar parades. The First Battalion Nelson Infantry contemplate holding an all iiiryht parade at Brightwatcr, probably in Jan- : vary, when the men will be taken out i by a Saturday afternoon train, and carry out outpost -training during the evening and following day. Lieutenant James Hill, of the Nelson Eifles, has resigned his commission, and becm appointed \to the active list (unattached).
