BOWLING.

MAITAI BOWLING CLUB. . The opening of the Maitai Bowling Club's green for tho season took place on November 17th. There was a good attendance of bowlers, the Nelson Club being well represented. There was also a large number of spectators present, including many ladies. The President (Mr E. Richards) in an appropriate speech declared the green open, and welcomed the members of tho Nelson Club. He also compimonted the caretaker (Mr Pegg) on tho appearance of the green. Since last season the green has been re-laid by Mr Collins, of Christchurch, and yesterday it was played on for tho lirst time. J3owlcrs were unanimous in their praise of tho way the green p]ayetl, the boivls -running time and members felt rewarded for tho expenditure in tho improvement of the green. The surroundings of the green arc blight with many coloured flowers, and with the summer costumes of the ladies presented a gay appearance. A match was played between rinks chosen by the President and Vice President (Dr Wright) respectively, which resulted in ii win for the latter by the narrow margin of three points, the totals being, Vice President 93, President 90.
