AMUSEMENTS.

COOPER'S OPERASCOPE CO. Despite ilie unfavourable weather conditions last evening there was a fairly largo audience at the Theatre Royal when Cooper's Operaseope Company opened their season. The entertainment consisted of moving pictures, comprising trick, song, and a seance. The pictures were large, clear and well shown, the scenes from "The Mikado" being particularly good. The effect in these was enhanced considerably by a gramaphone, the reproduction of the voices being in perfect unision with the movements of the figures in the pictures. "Living Flowers" was the title of a beautifully coloured pantomime film, which was warmly applauded. A number of comic and dramatic films were also sliown, -fclio former croatirifx Ttlucll merriment. Among the best of them was "Her First Bike Ride," "Electrical Fluid," and "A Modern Diogenes." Dr Eowp proved himself a conjurer of exceptional ability, and executed a number of tricks with cards, rings, etc., with considerable deftness. Miss Vora Hamilton sang a serio-comic solo, receiving an encore. An interesting part of the programme was the "seance" in which "Nadine," the white Mahatnia, figured as the medium in replying to questions written anfl retained by members of the audience. The replies given were warmly apphauded. The lady informed questioners, amongst other things, that Burns would beat Johnson for the. boxing championship af the world in fourteen rounds ; that Arnst would bo defeated for the sculling championship of the world by Webb, and that Mr Graham would retain the city seat. A matinee will bo given this afternoon and there will be another appearance to-nicht, when the season will bo concluded.
