Barkly, with the ballot boxes and the returns from the places not 7 connected by telephone in the Sounds, was expected back in Nelson yesterday, morning, but she did riot put in- an appearance. The Returning Officer (Mr Glen) in the afternoon communicated with the Sounds by telephone,- but the steamer had not then called at Elaine Bay, Waipawa Bay, Wairangi, or any of the other places connected by telephone. Sub-sequently.-a telegram was received from Nydia Bay stating that the Lary Barkly . had ' been delayed by the weather. . This removed any fears j . that an accident had occurred. :
Mr Graham was the recipient of messages from friends in all parts of tlio Dominion yesterday. The Premier wired: "Exceedingly pleased to hear of your return. — J. G. Ward." Tho reply sent wus: "Sincerest thanks for your kind congratulations. Returns, however, not yet complete and second ballot probable; but for which election would now have been definitely assured. Kind regards. — John Graham." Mr McNab wired: "Confess I am hoping that the result of the contest in your district will be that Parliament will have the benefit of your services for another three three years. — Robert McNab." 'The reply was: "Accept hearty thanks for your kind good wishes, and sincerest regret at the result in your own electorate, which is a severe loss to the Dominion. — John Graham." MR GRAHAM'S UA^DIDATURE. Mr Graham's General Committeemet at the Rechabits HbII last night, when tba buildiag was filled with active suppoiters. - Tb3 enthusiasm shown in regard to the rosult3 of the first hallor, was very marked, and a firm determination to renew the contest and briug it to an emphatic and conclusive teimination in favour of the candidate, waa plainly evident. Mr Mo(l*tt entered the hall in the middle of the proceadings and asked leave to contradict certain rumours which had been circulated concerning himself.
