NELSON AGRICULTURAL ANO PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

The monthly meeting of the General Committee of the abov3 named Association was held at Richmond ou Saturday night, there being present: Messrs Godfrey Best, E. li. Coleman, Kerr. Clayden. Higgins, W. Ooleman, Charles Obing, Holland, Noble Win, W. J). Harkness, J. Hunt, Talbot. W. T. Bond, Wadaworth, T. JB. Chisnall, H. Croucber, G. W. Best, JaniB3 Ohing, J. Jeilyman, the Vice-President (Mr Bartlett), the President (Mr J. Hagan), and the Secretary (Mr Glen). The President in the chair. PRESENTATION. The President said the members had taken part and assisted in the presentation made to Mr Talbot on the celebration of his golden wedding, but it had been decided at the last meeting of the Committee thas a presentation should be made to Mr Talbot by the Association, with which Mr Talbot had been actively connected for the past fourteen years. Mr Talbot had all that time been a member of the Finance Committee, and a member of ib.3 General Committee; also had bean lion. Treasurer, and three years ago tilled the position of President. He considered that was a splenaid record of service rendered to the Association. He trusted Mr Talbot would long continue to be actively connected with the Association. That gentleman vvas more of a worker than a speaker, but he always gave sound advice, his remarks being based on good sense, and were always to the point. He asked Mr Talbot "to accept from the Association the gift of an easy chair, and expressed the hope that he would long live to enjoy many hours of ease and comfort in the chair. Several members endorsed what the President had said about Mr Talbofe's usefulness, and the hope was expressed that Mr Talbot would long continue actively connected with the Association. Mr Talbot (who was received with applause), thanked the members for their kind words, and for the handsome gift. He did not know what he had done to deserve so much kindness. He said it was owiDg to a remark that Mr Charles Bird made that the Association was revived fourteen years ago. He was glad he called a public meeting to have the Association revived, for he was con fident the Association burl proved a great benefit to tbe district. He had lived in the district nearly fifty years, and had been a farmer in a small way. Ue had always taken a keen interest in the welfare of the farmers and the district. The latter had not received from the Government the attention it deserved, but he hoped that would be rectified in the future. He hoped that trhere would be no flagging of energy on the part of the members of the Association, and that both the district and the Association svould prosper more and more every year.

(The handsome chair was procured from the establishment of Messrs Page and Sons, and the inscription plate was tastefully executed by Messrs Brown and Kerr. )
