ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of members of this Club was held at Mercers' Rooms on July 27th when there was a fair attendance of members. Mr E. S. Cress well (a Vice-President of

the Club) was voted to the chair. The Committee in their tsvelfth annual report regretted that they were not able to chronicle a more successful season, owing chiefly to lacls of support from the public at the Club's annual sports meeting, on Ist February* the unfavorable state of the weather in the morning interfering with the attendance. So far as the sport was concerned the meeting was highly successful, nod provided some of the closest finishes ever seen on the track. During the summer evening sports meetings had beei held for the purpose of keeping tha sport alive, and encouraging young athletes and in the direction the results were highly satisfactory, but the venture was unfortunate!} 1 not a success financially. Mention was made of the part the Club took in the Trafalgar Day celebrations, which resulted in a profit of £3 4s, and to the Schools' championship held on that day, the Shield presented by Mr GeOi Hogg, being won by the Central School. The football matches organised by Mr Geo. Thomason, Press v, Civil Service, hnd resulted in a profit of £9 8s 9d. Tne Committee regretted to report a falling off of public interest in athletic and cycling sports, and sounded a note of warning to the incoming committe suggesting that other attractions beside pedestrian and cycling contests be provided, otherwise a S9vere loss would follow. Toe Committee appealed to active and honorary members to support the Club, for without subscriptions the Club could not exist. The Club had during its twelve years' existence been the means of fostering clean healthy sport and had the distiction of being second to hone in the Colony, and for that " reason alone the Committee would legard it as a calamity if it 3 time honored uame wore allowed to lapse. Regret was expressed at the departure from Nelson of Messrs F, McGeo and G. Tbomasqn, the Club's hearty congratulations were extended to Messrs Thomason and Cook, members of the Club, who represented ths Wellington Centre at the Championship meeting held at Cbristchurch, The former won the Putting the Shot and was second in the High Jump Championship with the splendid jump of five feet seven inches, while Cook won the 120 Hurdles in grea sUle

The balance-sheet showed that the receipts for the year had amounted to £20l 4s, and the expenditure to £240 18s Bd, leaving a credit balance of £10 5s 4d. Subscriptions amounting to £13 Is 6d bad been received since the 30th June, making a total nreriit balance of £23 6s 4d. The Ggures showed a' loss of £30 odd on the February meeting.

The report and balance-sheet were adopted.

Several new members were elected, including Mr Geo. Suherland, the ex-New Zealand champion cyclist, who has taken up his residence in Nelson.

A motion was carried unanimously tbnt instead of having an unlimited number of Vice-Presidents,one V icePresident only be appointed.

Gilbert (re-elected). Auditors: Messrs J. E. Miluer (reelected) and C. B. Fell. Committee: Messrs l\ Hamilton, C. R. Fell, C. A. Redworth, fl. Hall, F. McCabe, 11, Redmond, and Geo. Sutherland.

Athletic Handicapers: Messrs Hogg and H. Milner (re-elected). Timekeepers: Messrs Moyes, Kerr, and Hunter. Official Photographer: Mr F. N. Jones, jnr. Delegates to Nelson Centre : Messrs Oresswell and Chisnolm. Delegate to Wellington Centre: Mr W. G. Talbot (re-elec-ted).

It was resolved that Mr Geo. Hogg be recommended to the Centre as one of the cycling handicappers. It was resolved that the Committee be recommended to consider the advisability of holding a gymkhana in November next.

Votes of thanks were accorded the Committee, the ex-Hon. Captain (Mr H. Milner), and the chairman, and the meeting terminated.
