NELSON AID SOCIETY.

The annual meeting of the above named Society was held on July 24th when his Lordship tbe Bishop - of Nelson presided.

Mr K. I. Kingsley, the Secretary, presented the annual report as follows:—

"Your Committee beg to present their report for the thirty-first year of the Society's work.

"Your Committee are again glad to report that during the year pa;t there has not been any great inciease of cases of distress requiring assistance from tbe Society.

"This is no doubt partly owing to the beneficial effect of the Old Age Pension Act, and also partly to the fact that there are but few unemployed in Nelson. "Nevertheless, all through %he year there have been cases in whiph just such timely and judicious assistance as our Society gives, has been greatly needed, and, of course, readily given by the Ladies' Committee, to whom great thanks are due for the careful yet kind manner in which the relief is dispensed.

"At the last meeting of the Committee two fresh cases were reported, and as the Hon. Treasurer stated the balance in hand was small, the Committee decidod that an appeal should be made to the publio for subscriptions.

"Although it is not usual to mention individual cases assisted during the year, your Gornrnitteo feel it is right to call attention to one, if only to put on record the generous professional help given. The patient, an elderly woman, suffered from cataract, and the doctor kindly performed the operation for ie free of charge, and in other ways lessened the expenses, so that with the aid of special subscriptions, and a contribution from the Ohari table Aid Board, the amount paid by the Society was reduced to a small sum, while the poor woman was effoctualy relieved, the operation being most successful.

"The thanks of the Society are due to the Ladies' Committee and to all who have helped tbe Society during the past year. "CHARLES O. NELSON,

"Chairman. '
