MR CONEY'S FAREWELL CONCERT.
There was a numerous and highly appreciative audience at the Theatre Royal recently on the occasion of the farewell "concert given hy Mr Barry Coney. The concert was opened with a quartette for piano and strings by Keinecke. the allegro and scherzo movements bfting admirably interpreted by Misses Stevens, Rowe, Buchanan and Herr Letnmer, and the charming mu3ic was greatly appreciated. This was followed by two songs (a) "Th« Streamlet" (Orlando Morgan) and (b) "I am not Pair" (Tosti) by Miss "Helen Phillips, who was in quod voice, and who sang well. A well deserved encore rewarded the vocalist. Mr Barry Coney then sang Alfred Hill's "Taugi," a remarkable and clever composition, whch Mr Coney interpreted with artistic skill, and this the audience appreciated, as evinced by an .enthusiiaste encore. The next number was a concerto for two violins (Bach),a fine study in which Misses Flett and Rowe gave proof of their artistic abilities, but the composition is hardly suitable for a popular concert. Mr Tom Houlker secured an encore for his capital rendering of Korbay's song " Had a Horse. " The delightful piano solo "Polonaise in A Flat" ( Chopin )gave Mr Barry Coney an opportunity of displaying his technical aod aritistc abilities as a pianiste, and so well did he acquit himself that he was compelled to appear again. In th* second 1 part the opening number, Concertatuck, with accompaniment on second piano (Weber), by Mr Barry Coney and Miss Dora Judson, was thorougly enjoyable, and the performers are to be highly complimented on its rendering. Miss Constance Gilbert sang| Beirgnani's song "Hush my Little One" extremely well, and her effort evoked an encore. The violin soli (a) Devant son image (Hubay) and (b) HumoresKe (Dvorak) were skilfully played by Miss Phyllis Buchanan and Mr Barry Coney won another encore by his rendering of Handel's "song "Droop not, Young Lover." Another very charming performance was the Duo for two pianos" Andante with variations (Schumann) by Mr Barry Coney and Mis 3 Pora Juason. The concert concluded with the appropriate song "The Wanderer's Song"( Schumann) which was feelingly rendered by Mr Coney and who, as an encore sang with fine effect Sims Reevos' old song "Sally in Our Alley." The accompanisfees, Misses Dora Judson, Coote, and Kempthorne, performed their work admirably, and Miss Dora Judson 's brilliant work with Mr Coney was highly appreciated.
