NELSON JOCKEY GIUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of members of the Nelson Jockey Club was held at Mercer's Rooms on May 29tb, when there was a good attendance of members. The President (Major Franklyn) occupied the chair. The annual report, which had. been printed and circulated among nembers stated that "The year's work of the Club resulted in a losa of over £50 which was met out of cash to credit on current account. The stability of the Club is not;, however, affected by this loss, the sum of £700 being placed on fixed deposit in the National Bank, the sum of £30 being available in current account to meet ordinary expanses. The position disclosed by the accounts demands the careful consideration of members, that in deciding upon future course of notion the risk of loss resulting should be minimised. For the second year the sum of £800 was offered in stakes, the same amount as at the Carnival Meeting iv 1906, and nominations and acceptances showed an increase of over £50 upon the average for the years prior to 1906 (that year being Carnival season and a special occasion, is not taken into consideration in the comparisou). The receipts for admission show a considerable falling oil", being the smallest amount received for over ten years: £45 less than 1905, £27 less than 1904, and £37 less than 1903. The increase of members since 1905 may account in a very small measure for the reduced gate receipts, but this matter is one that requires the very careful consideration" of members. The Committee drov- attention to the fact that the large sum of over £30 of subscriptions remain unpaid, and in this connection the attention of members was directed to the rules of the Club governing the payment of subscriptions, and declaring the ineligibility of members to vote or exercise privileges until subscriptions were paid. Since last annual meeting the Club sustained a severe loss in the death of Mr Joseph A. Hurley, many years Hon. Treasurer to the Club. An appreciation of his valuable services was duly placed on the records of the Club. Mr Robert Hunter was elected to the office of Hon Treasurer. Rules of the Club had been adopted and printed and a copy sent to each member of the Club. The election of offioers this year will be carried out in accordance with the rules, which do away with the eleci tion oi Stewards, the same being I appointed by £the from I their number. " The Chairman remarked that although the last race meeting resulted i in a loss the Club was still in a good financial position. He referred feelingly to the death of the late Mr J. A. Harlem, the hon (treasurer, who had been a good member of the Club and a true sport, and an appreciation of his services, he said, had j been recorded on the minutes. (Members rose as a mark of respect to the late Mr Harley ? s memory). Major Franklyn tbon moved the adoption of the report "and balance sheet. Mr Hardey referred to the rent of £50 charged for Richmond Park, and suggested that a deputation should wait upon the A. and P. Association and ask for a reduction in the amount. Mr E. Trask said that nearly two years ago, in company with the late Mr Joseph A. Harley, he waited upon the A. and P. Association in reference to this matter and they were given to understand that in two years' time, when the present lease expired, the Association would reduce the amount. In reply to Mr Hardey. the Chairman said the Association received the training fees in addition to the rent. The motion for the adoption of the report and balance sheet was then carried unanimously.
