OREPUKI SHALE WORKS

Invercargill, January 2 In regard to the statements tbat the Government is negotiating for the purchase of the Orepuki Shale Works with tbe object of utilising them as creosote works, the Southland Times has the best authority for denying the report. The Government never thought of purchasing he works. The result obtained from 500 tons of shale sent Home was ex tremely satisfactory, the product*be ing superior to the best scotch shale. It is probable that the works, oi which £80,000 was spent, will sooi be again a going concern.
