SHIPPING ITEMS.

Gisborne, January 6. The visiting steamers at Gisborne to-day aggregate 28,000 tonnage, including the ocean liners Tongarira, Indradevi, and Maori. The shipping entered during the past twelve months totalled 919,034 tons, as compared with 412,733 in the previous year. Wanoanui, January 6. Captain Crawford, late skipper of the Huia, and formerly of the Stormbird, has retired from the Welling-ton-Wanganui Steam Packet Company after 153^ years' service, and intends settling in Auckland. Last evening he was presented with an address and a gold propeller attachment for a watch chain by the officers and creW of the Huia.
