Petroleum in Taranaki.
New Plymouth, September 3. At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr Samuel, Managing Director of the Petroleum Company, said Mr McKay, the Government Geologist, had inspected the various petroleum bores, aed he was absolutely satisfied that underneath the 900 and tho 2000 feet levels there were large supplies of oil. Mr Samuel said he thought the nresent organisation must fail, but the
rovernment would not be doing its clear luty if it did not spend a little money in j >rder to discover whether oil existed in i&yable quantities. ; ______ — . i
