ORGAN RECITAL AT ST. JOHNS CHURCH.
The announcement thas MrT. Tallis Trimneli, Mus, Baob., Oxon, would i-ive an organ recital in Bt. John's Weeleyan Church, bad the effect of filling that building on Sept. 4tb, Mr Trimnell performed some nine solo?, amongst which mention may be made of the foUowing aB being peihaps the mott enjoy-able:-Tbn Andante <n F ruajor (Jules Grison), Marche Nupli- : .h (Alex. Guilmant), and the Toocota in G m jor (Iheod. I'uloie). But not only was each 1 [ .Mr Trimnell's soles enjoyed, for his organ 1 '.oempanimenis were moßt exprestive, and in every W6y admirable, that of Gounod's grsne! eolo "Nazareth" being espeoiaUy bo. Mi*.a Baigent, who was in good voice ard vshosa enunciation was Clear, sang Handel's ' Angels Ever Bright and Fair." Mrs liouli's rendering of E. Newton's song " 'Ihe Ho ! y Shrine " too, wbb much apprec'ated, as likewise was Mr H. Kidson'a singirp; rf "Nazareth." Before the comrn ■? cement of the last solo, Mr Haddow inumut d that although that gentleman would experience some inconvenience in cousequenoe, Mr Trimnell had consented to remain in Nelson for a day or two, and 10 give a second Recital in 'the Cbureh this evening, when admission will be by silver coin, the object being to enable all to hear tbat talen:ed organi-.t. Oegan Recital.— Mr T. Tallis Trimnell gave a pecond recital at St. John's Wesleyan Church last night, and his performances on tbe organ were more enjoyable than those on ihe occasion of the former recitsl. For speo'al mention, we might single out the Grand Fantasia " The Storm," by Lemmneß, in which the Organist gave a remarkable interpretation of the composer's work. The whistling wind and the thunder peals were verisimilitudes; and even the lightnings' flash boi mcd to be experienced, and th n oame inteimingled strains of praise. It was as though '« The clouds poured out water ; the skies sent out a Eoond ; thine arrowßalßO went abrcad. Tbe voice of thy thunder was in the heaven ; the lightnings lightened the world ; the earth trembled and Bhook," and then as though the exhortation ''Praise the Lord from the earth ye dragons and all deeps; fire and hail; snow and vapours; ftcrmy wind fulfilling his word," was beicg given effect to. A rare treat, too, was the delightful improvisation by this talented organist. Those who heard Mr Trimnell last night will gladly welcome him Bhould he again visit Nelson, — ■***■*-.
