NELSON TRADES AND LABOR UNION.

A meeting of the members of this Uaioa was held at Sigley's Hall, on Saturday night. The Bey P. W. Ijitt, President of the Union, wa3 in the chair, and before the 1 business of the meeting was entered upon, he made a few remarks thanking the members for having eleoted him as their President. AJetter was read from Mr J. G. Harkness, M.H.R.. relative to the Shop and Factories Bill and the petition concerning same. A. letter from Mr Love of Wellington referred to rules, and gave information es to affiliation on their adoption. A latter from Mr Kelly, of Inveroargill, ra- , f erred to rnks, and enclosed those of the Sou'bland Association. On the motion of Mr Haase, seconded by MrMalone.it wa 9 resolved that the rules already passed, together with other rules subsequently received, be referred to the Committee in order that draft contemplated rules of this Union might be submitted to a general meetiDg of members before being passed. A. so-called balance sheet submitted by . the late acting Seoretary wa3 submitted, and a discussion on same ensued, it being said that the statement could not be audited for' want of vonohere.' " It was resolved that the list of those who had paid money be read. ' After farther remarks, it was resolved, on the ixjotion of Mr Avery, seconded by Mr '; Bray, that those present subscribe to make up the amount whioh should have , bean paid by the late Seorefary for rent of room. The amount was subscribed in the room. On the motion of Mr Avery. seconded agreed that the resolution! ! parsed at last ■ meetibg— that , Mr G.
