PUKEATUA NEWS

COMING-OF-AGE DANCE • HELD FOR MISS PHYL ANDERSON A dance to celebrate the coming-of-age of their daughter Phyl, was extended by Mr and Mrs R. A. Anderson in the Pukeatua Hall last Friday evening. A very large gathering was present. The Hall was richly decorated with flowers and greenery, with a prominent silver-glittered “21” set on tlie stage. With Gordon Hunter’s threepiece orchestra providing the music, the evening soon progressed into one of much gaiety, prompted by Phyl’s brother, Neil,, who officiated as M.C.Phyl appeared wearing an off-the-shoulder evening frock of white silk with a self frill around the neck-line and a full skirted hem: Sprays of pinky-red flowers were worn at the waistline. Around her neek she wore an attractive cameo pendant necklace which was gifted to her by her sister and brother-in-law from Australia. She was presented by Mr E. Houston who remarked on Phyl’s good fellowship within the community and hoped that her presence would still be felt in the years ahead.. After a suitable reply, in which she thanked those present for their generous gifts, Phyl then admirably extinguished the 21 candles surrounding her birthday cake which was magnificently shaped and iced in the design of a cottage, with the candles representing the picket fence. This delicate piece of icing was performed by Mrs Gordon Paul of Tokoroa. After the toasts had been drunk, dancing continued on into the early hours of the morning when the singing of “Auld Land Syne” concluded a most enjoyable occasion. Drama Club
