AMATEUR ATHLETICS
MATINEE SPORTS CLIVE RHODES IN SPECTACULAR TRIAL The twilight sports meeting conducted by the Te Awamutu Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club on Wednesday evening produced two outstanding achievements. Firstly was Clive Rhodes, Te Awamutu’s scratch cycle rider’s spectacular win over “Snowy” Cameron in the men’s half mile cycle event and later winning the three mile derby by 43 .points to his nearest opponent’s 24 points, thus providing a thrilling final trial on his home track prior to his competing in to-morrow’s 10 mile Empire Games trial at WJestern Springs Stadium. TJce second feat of unusual merit was that of Allison Urwin winning her two races while her elder brother Georgie won two races and a third placing, thus giving them both a lead of six points each in the Club boys and girls competitions. There was a record number of 73 individual competitors to face the starter, Mr Roy North, while the handicapping proved excellent in both the cycling and running events. hollowing are the results:—■ Men’s 100 yds: Bobby Findlater 1, J.
