KAWHIA TOWN BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING HELD THE EROSION DANGER The monthly meeting of Kawhia Town Board was held on Monday night, when there were present: Commissioners Percy Ward (chairman), Ivan Davies, W. T. Lentfer, T. A. Graham, and S. B. Sifleet. In regard to the application to the Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. W. E. Tarry) for a subsidy on the cost of the proposed improvements to the camping ground, it was reported that no definite reply had been received, but it was believed that the Minister was awaiting a report before making his final decision. Mr N. Simmons was granted permission to clear and crop the cemetery reserve. A formal resolution authorising the poundkeeper to graze his horse on the streets was formally rescinded. It was decided to send a letter of thanks to the Kawhia County Council for the use of the county equipment in metalling and grading the roads of the township. As erosion is continuing on the foreshore, particularly near the foottrack, opposite Mr McFie’s residence, it was decided to approach the Minister of Works (the Hon. R. Semple) with a view to procuring State assistance in combating the menace, the work being of such magnitude as to be beyond the finances of the Town Board. Treat for the Children The Oparau Women’s Institute, ever to the fore in helping all worthwhile movements, and especially in encouraging the young folk, intend to give the school children throughout the district a treat early in October. It will take the form of a picture entertainment in the local hall. Already the film, 4 The Swiss Family Robinson,” has been secured, and it is also hoped to exhibit a technicolour picture of the Royal Wedding.
