SUCCESSFUL FLOWER SHOW ANGLICAN LADIES’ GUILD STAGE ENJOYABLE FUNCTION Glorious weather helped yesterday afternoon to make the Flower Show held at Kihikihi under the auspices of the Anglican Church Guild a complete success. The beautifully kept grouiids of Mrs Mahon on the Arapuni Road, the attractiveness of which were added to by the many flowers and shrubs that were growing, made an ideal spot for such a function. There was a large attendance and among those present was the Rev. J. D. Hogg and the cordiality that exists between the churches of this district was exemplified by the presence of the Rev. K. L. Warren, the Presbyterian Minister at Kihikihi. The Flower Show exhibits, while comparatively small in number, were beautiful in the extreme, and their high quality earned the. commendation. of the judge, Mr J. A. Marx. Added attractiveness was given to the competitive classes by exhibitions of pot plants by Mr Marx and beautiful narcissi by the Rev. Saunders, curate at St. John's Church. From the latterclass was selected the champion bloom of the show. Mr Marx’s exhibit included an Australian dendrobium, an intriguing orchid, and another beautiful orchid, beloporana gatata, and an equally beautiful , primula coniacea. A number of amusing competitions kept the attention of those present happily and busily engaged, while, an excellent afternoon tea, partaken of under the ideal conditions of the beautiful grounds, was one of the highlights of the afternoon. The quality and quantity of the refreshments provided all went to show that for hospitality and excellent cooking the, country folk are hard to beat. There were excellent blooms in the tent, while Mr Saunders’ display on view in the sitting room was of a particularly high standard. Mr Marx gave some helpful advice to the exhibitors which, if taken heed of, should be of benefit to them in future flower shows.
