Drift Into State Jobs
The drift of labour out of private production into non-productive Government work must be stopped, said the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Holland) at a National Party luncheon in Wellington. In 1936 there were 59,000 Government employees, and in 1946 there were 99,000, he said. “I think we ought to be able to rub along with that number.”
