WAIPA ASSOCIATION A. FISHER SCORES 101 The second series of matches in the Waipa Cricket Association Competition was commenced on Saturday in ideal weather conditions. The first century of the season was registered by A. Fisher for Te Awamutu Rovers at Tokanui, when he compiled 101 in brilliant style. Several good bowling performances were recorded, the best efforts being J. Edwards (Paterangi), 7 for 22 and A. Wishart, ITe Awamutu College, 7 for 22. At Albert Park, on No. 1 wicket Paterangi had first use of the wicket and proceeded to score a steady 112. C. Tarr (26) and R. Mexted (36), batted steady for their runs; H. Woodward (18) also showed form. J, Thornton returned a good effort with the ball for Korakonui, taking 6 for 29. Korakonui was soon in trouble being back in the pavilion with only 35 runs on, 'the board. Fine form was shown by the Paterangi pair, J. Edwards 7 for 22 and C. Tarr 3 for 11, who bowled unchanged throughout the innings. On No. 2 wicket Te Awamutu Wanderers had first use against the youthful College team. After a good start by Archer (22) and Barton (25), their stocks slumned. The last wicket fell at 94, A. Wishart 7 for 29 and W. Moxham 3 for 32 provided a difficult attack.

The college eleven in reply could only make 58 against the steady attack of G. Rutherford 5 for 16 and E. Evans 3 for 12. Batting first on iNo. 3 wicket, Otorbhanga were soon in trouble, being all out for'36. N. Wyllie, 4 for 11 and F. Woodd 4 for 8, being in a destructive mood 1 . J. Askew, showing fine form in compiling 54 enabled Frontier Road to have a handy first innings lead. T. Loveday with 5 for 20 showed form for Otorohanga. In their second visit to the wicket Otorohanga have lost 1 wicket for 11 runs. At Tokanui A. Fisher and Jennings soon appreciated the excellent conditions prevailing on this ground and delighted the spectators with some brilliant batting. Fisher’s century which was the first of the season, was made in forceful style; included in his score was 11 fours. Jennings also displayed good form in making 40. Syme (20) and White (221 also batted well. Clarke 4 for 6 returned remarkable figures in a score of 238. Tokanui’s reply at stumps was 25 for 3 wickets.

It is with delight that cricketers welcome the Te Awamutu College team back into the Association competition this season. They made an excellent debut when they were defeated by the strong Rovers eleven by only one run in their first match. One of the most exciting finishes seen at the Park for a long time. Credit must go to Messrs A. G. Baigent and A. E. Wishart for their efforts in moulding this team together. The strength of the team seems more in the bowling and fielding than in batting, but with more practice this will come. Early form has been shown by W. Moxham and D. Armstrong with Others shaping very promisingly. Stick to it boys, the Association is watching yoxx with much interest.
