WAIPA ASSOCIATION CENTURY TO N. McMAHON 9 A feature of the concluding day’s play in the third series of games in the Waipa Association’s competition was the much improved form displayed. High scoring was general, the wickets playing true, while the outfields were very fast. Showery weather again made conditions unpleasant for the players. Three games were decided at Albert Park. On No. 2 wicket keen interest was maintained throughout the day, the result being in doubt to the last ball. Replying to Korakonui’s first innings total of 172, Frontier Road after a strong bid were all out for 170 runs, to give Korakonui a lead of two runs on the first innings. J. Askew, 66 not out, batted steadily, assisted by W. Young 32 kept the fieldsmen on their toes while the score mounted. After Young’s dismissal wickets fell quickly. Korakonui’s bowling was very steady. J. Askew gave a good performance with the ball, which contributed & Korakonui being all out the second time for 91. He took eight wickets for 37 in 15 overs. With 94 runs left for an outright win Frontier Road commenced their second innings with 65 minutes left to bat. At stumps their score stood at 87 for nine wickets. Askew 32 again batted well. J. Thornton six for _5O was steady for Korakonui.

On No. 1 wicket Kaipaki with 185 runs on for five wickets, continued their innings, and with unenterprising play batted most of the morning, being all out for 237. C. Bones was slow in making his 50 not out. Facing a big total Paterangi’s batting was enterprising and at stumps had made 176 for three wickets. Bainbridge 81 not out gave a good exhibition, scoring his runs all round the wicket was assisted by Monahan 34 and C. Tarr 22 in making the result a draw. On No. 3 wicket, Wanderers were ail out in their first innings for 105. T. Lyon, five for 57, bowled steady. With N. McMahon 101 not out, making the second century of the season, gave Rovers the opportunity of declaring their innings closed at 169 for two wickets. McMahon gave a delightful exhibition of forceful batting, scoring with powerful shots all round the wicket. T. Lyon was solid in scoring his 57. Wanderers failed in their second effort, being all out for 51. T. Lyon six for 13 was again difficult to play. At Tokanui Air Force collapsed in their first innings and were all out for 110. The last six wickets added only 7 runs. Grenfell finished with five for 32. In their second visit to the crease, Air Force, making 31, again collapsed to the howling of Grenfell, who took seven for 13. Tokanui, after making 168 in their first innings, failed in their second innings, being all out for 57 to the bowling of Arnold five for 20 and Laird five for 27.
