GOVERNOR THUMBS A RIDE An astounded Brooklyn, New York motorist who gave a hitch-hiker a lift and discovered he had picked up Governor Thomas E. Dewey, knows the whole story now. Governor Dewey, asked at a news conference if he had thumbed a ride as rumoured, confirmed the report and said it all started when he saw some brown Swiss cows as he was driving from his Pawling farm to Albany. He had a blowout just after seeing the cows and decided to look them over while the tyre was being changed. So he thumbed a ride. The first vehicle to stop, a farm truck, was full, but the second, driven by the unidentified Brooklynite, stopped. The result? Two new heifers in the Governor’s barn and, perhaps, the vote of that Brooklyn motorist.
