LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

TOKANUI BRANCH The September meeting of the Tokanui branch of the League of Mothers was held at the residence of Mrs J. Kirkham. There was a large attendance of members and visitorsThe meeting opened with the League of Mothers hymn, followed by prayers. After the business of the meethad been completed, Mrs Wade, in a very pleasant little speech presented Mrs Gane, .who had been president for 7i years, with a beautiful posy of spring flowers and referred to her loyalty and help to the League of Mothers at all times. A similar tribute was paid to Mrs Kirkham, who had been the branch’s correspondent to Grey Lynn for the same period. p Mrs Kirkham then welcomed Rev and Mrs M. Sullivan who had kindly come out to help with the meeting. Mr Sullivan gave a. most interesting talk on his experiences in Italy, some of which were very amusing and caused much merriment. He also gave enlightening descriptions of the conditions in that country. His talk was very much enjoyed by all’present. Solos by Mesdames Wade and Sullivan were deeply appreciated, also a rendering of “Oh Dear What Can The Matter Be” played by Mrs Sullivan. The president thanked the sneaker on behalf of all present, also the ladies who entertained with items- This was shown by acclama-. tion.

A competition (makes of cars) was won by Mrs D. Richardson. Afternoon tea and a social chat brought a very happy afternoon to a close. The bring-and4buy stall, for the crippled children’s fund was in the capable hands of Mrs Gane. The thought for the month was given by Mrs Kirkham. Officers for the ensuing year are as follows:—President, Mrs J. Kirkham; vice-president, Mrs L. Gane; secretary, Mrs C. McLean; correspondent, Mrs N- Taylor; press reporter, Mrs A- S. Wyllie.
