PURCHASE OF PLANT
DECISION OF OTOROHANGA COUNTY COUNCIL INCREASE IN GENERAL RATE A decision to purchase a Caterpillar grader (£2,300), two 15 cwt. vans (£1,060), a loader dozer (£1900) and a river patrol boat (£6O) was made at the meeting of the Otorohanga County Council yesterday. It was proposed to sell' the old Galion grader and a ft ton truck, which would mean that the cost of replacement of the plant would be £3380. In order to finance the purchase of the new plant it was decided to increase the general rate over the whole of the County by 7/16d. for this year. With .this increase, providing the rate collection is approximately the same as for last year, the plant will be fully paid for during the present financial year, and also the riding debit balances, amounting to £1372 will be liquidated. It was felt by members that this method of finance wcmld be much more economical than the raising of of a special loan on which a high rate of interest would have to be paid. It was pointed out that a subsidy of 5s in the £ was payable on all general rates and this would materially assist the purchase.
