SITE SELECTED

AGRICULTURAL HIGH SCHOOL FARM AT TAUWHARE ' The special committee of the Auckland Education Board set up to select a site for the proposed South Auckland Agricultural High School visited the Waikeria Borstal property last Wednesday. A portion of that area was among the sites selected for consideration by the committee. Those who made the inspection were Messrs J. M. McWlhannell, W. I. Bowyer, and A. Bell (members of Auckland Education Board), Messrs G. H. Shortland and J. H. Dennehy (officers of the Board), and Messrs A. E. Bryant J. G. Wynyard, H. R. Qlarke, W. G. Parker, and C. Eyre, and Mrs Ray (members of Te Awamutu Committee). A large meeting of representatives of the whole south Auckland area was held in Hamilton yesterday. Mr McWhannell presided, and he thanked the district committees for the work they had done and those present for attending in. such large numbers. After outlining the progress made, the chairman asked for any criticism, and intimated that the Education Board members would be pleased to answer any questions. It had been gratifying, said Mr McWhannell, to see how freely the petition praying for the establishment of the school had been signed. The meeting was very emphatic that an Agricultural High School should be established for boys who had done the core work of secondary education. Various speakers from Paeroa, Putaruru r Te Awamutu and Otorohanga were all in accord with the establishment of the school where ever the Board decided, irresspective of any parochial view. The site selected by the committe was a 700 acre farm at Tauwhare, seven miles from Cambridge and five miles from Hamilton. A report would be made to the Auckland Education Board. It was resolved to form an association to be known as the South Auckland Agricultural High School Association, with the present committee as an executive with power to add.
