PATERANGI FUNCTION
INTERESTING ADDRESS The Paterangi Red Cross Society held a most enjoyable function in the hall recently. This took the form of a social and dance, preceded by musical items by many well-known performers. During the evening Rev. M. G. Sullivan gave a most interesting and informative address on conditions in England. He described the unfailing bravery of the British people and gave an outline of the rationing system now in force to enable the starving peoples of Europe to have part of the allowance and thus maintain them above starvation point. He described the bomb damage done to the Mother country and told how, despite the fact that the buildings ajacent to St. Paul’s Cathedral were practically all razed to the ground, the fine old cathedral stood firm through the savage bombing and had remained an inspiration to the people of the ever-torn land. Mr Sullivan concluded his address by making a plea to his hearers to do everything in their power to help the people in the British Isles by sending food parcels and making available all possible eatables. At the conclusion Miss Curl Macky, president of the Red Cross, thanked Mr Sullivan for his most interesting address and the performers for providing a first-class musical entertainment. After a delicious supper the evening concluded with dancing. t
