TRAFFIC OFFENCES
MOTORISTS BEFORE COURT VARIOUS OFFENCES COMMITTED Traffic inspector M. P. Norris proceeded against the following defendants in the Te Awamutu Court on ; Wednesday- Mr S. L. Paterson S.M., ! after hearing statements made by ' the inspector relative to the c.ircumi stances surrounding each case, in- • flicted the penalties indicated below. Philip Armstrong, 10s. and costs, ; on a charge of having no warrant of ' fitness and a similar penalty on a I charge of having defective lights, i Jack Murrell and John Garland ; (partners), were jointly charged i with having no warrant of fitness l for a truck. Mr Norris stated that (the warrant was six months overdue, i A fine of 10s and costs was imposed. • Dawson Perry was fined 10s and ' costs for having no warrant of fit- : ness for a motor cycle. Frank Linanovic was fined 10s and i costs for riding a bicycle on a footi path. Mr Norris stated :hat rhe de- . fendant rode the cycle on the AlexI andra Street footpath. John Walters was charged with having a defective hand brake and ■ with having no warrant of fitness. ' Walters pleaded not guilty to the i first charge and guilty to the second. • Mr Norris stated that when accosted, ■ the defendant Walters said that he i had left the warrant of fitness at i home, but‘later admitted that he had not a warrant since 1942. The inspector had tested the hand brake and found it defective- Both hands had to be used in operating the brake. Walters said the brake was effective. Fines of 20s on the first charge and 10s on the second, with payment of Court costs were imposed. Speed Limit Exceeded Traffic inspector S. Hanna, of Te Kuiti, proceeded against Hamish McGregor (Mr A. R. Hill), on a charge of exceeding 40 miles per hour. Mr Hanna stated that the defendant was driving a light trade vehicle on the Te Awamutu-Hamilton Main Highway at a speed of 50 miles per hour. His excuse was that he had an important engagement in Hamilton. Mr Hill said the facts were as stated by the inspector. 1 A fine of £2 10s and payment of I Court costs was imposed.
