Messrs Heron and Buckett representing the Waipa Carriers’ Association, conferred with the Pool Committee in connection with the cartage position for the coming season. At the conclusion the chairman paid a tribute to the excellent manmer in which the association had cooperated during the season with the committee in ironing out difficulties. Mr O’Connor reported that the penny compulsory levy was being discontinued and the whole of the local tanners’ requirements of 200,000 skins was being subsidised out of the Consolidated Fund and not by the Calf Pools. He said that a happy feature of this was that local calf skins had eliminated the importation of foreign skins. The cost of the imported article was almost £25,000 at one period.
