FOOD FOR BRITAIN
GRAVITY OF PROBLEM STRESSED TELEGRAM FROM NEW ZEALAND FARMERS A request that the people of NewZealand (particularly farmers) should have the gravity of the world food shortage impressed upon them, was made in a telegram received on Wednesday by the Prime Minister. The message was from the New Zealand farmers’ delegation now in Britain for the world agriculture producers’ conference. Mr W. W. Mulholland, leader of the Dominion delegation, stated in the cable that the deputation had heard the nutrition expert, Sir James Boyd Orr, and the delegation asked the Prime Minister to impress upon the people, and particularly farmers, thd grave situation in regard to food throughout the worldThey urged the greatest possible production of food in the 1946-47 and 1947i48 seasons and the greatest possible economy in its use, in order that New Zealand might be as nearly as possible self-support-ing in all foodstuffs, and provide the greatest possible export.
