CLAIM FOR HIRE
MAGISTRATE’S DECISION GIVEN JUDGMENT FOR PLAINTIFF Reserved decision in the case of Lydia Caroline Stevens versus the Kawhia Town Board has been given by Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., ,in favour of the plaintiff for £2B 2s 3d and £3 costs. This case was heard at the Kawhia Magistrate’s Court on 25th February, the claim being for £3l 10s 6d, said to be the balance due for the hire of a truck by the Town Board. In giving judgment the magistrate said the whole question for the Court to decide was which set of entries should be accepted, and after carefully weighing the evidence, the demeanour of the witnesses, and the surrounding circumstances, he accepted the entries of the plaintiff. At the hearing the plaintiff was represented by her manager, Mr G. G. Jonathan, and Mr S. S. Preston appeared for the Board.
