Miss Marie Volz and Miss Pat Hegh, of Te Kawa, are on holiday at Waiua Pa and at Auckland.

Miss Elva Hegh, of Te Kawa, left on Monday to take up war work in Auckland.

Mrs R. M. Oldham, of Cambridge Road, has commenced duty as a temporary assistant at the Te Awamutu Post Office.

Among the visitors to Te Awamutu this week were Messrs Elliot and Truby King, of New Plymouth, directors of Newton King Ltd.

Mrs J. O. Taylor, of Paterangi Road, and her daughter, Patricia Taylor, left yesterday morning for * Auckland, where they will spend a week’s holiday.

The Hon. R. Semple, Minister of National Service, who has been under treatment at Rotorua for a severe attack of neuritis, left Rotorua for Wellington yesterday.

Mr G. W. Vicary, of Marakopa, is amongst those who have passed the Air Force preliminary examinations for radio personnel held at Hamilton on March 16 and 17.

Word has been received that Second Lieutenant Jack Evans, of Te Kuiti, who is serving in the Middle East, has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.

Mr S. J. Fortescue, Clerk of the Otorohanga County Council, has been appointed an official collector for that County in connection with the All Purposes Patriotic Appeal. He will act in conjunction with the Town Clerk of Otorohanga (Mr Ellis).

The Government has decided to recall Mr F. R. Picot from his present appointment as New Zealand member on the Eastern Group Supply Council at. New Delhi and appoint him New Zealand senior Supply Officer in Australia. Announcing this, the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, said Mr Picot would assume most important responsibilities in his new post.

Mr W. (“Dinah”) Thomson, who recently underwent an operation in the Waikato Hospital, following an accident to his right arm, has sufficiently recovered to be able to attend Monday’s meeting of the Otorohanga County Council, at which he thanked members for the kindly message of sympathy which they had instructed the Clerk to write to him during his illness.

A pleasant gathering took place in the Momona Tea Rooms on Monday afternoon, when the friends of Mrs L. M. Ford, of Rewi Street, entertained her at afternoon tea prior to her departure for Te Aroha. During the afternoon Miss D. Gerrand, in the course of a few happy remarks, asked Mrs Ford to accept from her friends a handsome morocco handbag as a token of the high regard in which she was held and as a symbol of their best wishes for the future. Mrs Ford suitably acknowledged the kindly sentiments expressed and the beautiful presentation made. Among the ladies present were Mesdames C. A. Bowler, F. Ford, R. Noonan, R. I. Fox, R. S. Whittaker, W. Mensforth, F. Linehan, L. Onion (Senr.), and E. Holmes, and Misses B. Fox and D. Gerrand.

PIRONGIA PERSONAL NOTES (Own Correspondent) Mrs George Sadd, of Khandallah, has returned home after being the guest of Mrs J. B. Johnson, Kawhia Road. Mrs Bagnall, Kawhia Road, left yesterday for Hamilton, where she will spend a fortnight’s holiday. Mrs A. Adamson, of Te Awamutu, and daughters Betty and Joan, are holiday making with Mrs H. Boggiss, Crozier Street. Corporal and Mrs Charles McPhail, Auckland, are the guests of Mrs Jack Grace, Mountain Road. Mrs J. Livingstone and Mrs B. Morse have returned home after being the guests of Mrs E. Aubin, Kawhia.
