OBITUARY

MRS CHRIS. CARTHY Profound grief was widely felt in Te Awamutu to-day when it became known that a highly-respected and beloved resident in the person of Mrs Chris Carthy, wife of Mr C. J. Carthy, the well-known saddler of Market Street, at present in camp with the National Military Reserve, had passed peacefully away early this morning, following an operation which she underwent yesterday. The late Mrs Carthy, who was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs P. Casey, of Hamilton, where her brothers and sisters at present reside, was well and favourably known locally, and her sudden death came as a great shock to a large circle of friends, whose sorrow at the passing of one possessed of many sterling and lovable qualities is deep-seated. The late Mrs Carthy was treasurer of the local Catholic Women’s League and a member of the Te Awamutu Ladies’ Patriotic Committee, and in both fields she was a tireless worker, never sparing herself in the noble cause she had at heart. To her husband, two young sons, and brothers and sisters sincere sympathy will be extended in the bereavement which has so suddenly overtaken them.
