THE PARAWERA BRANCH GOOD FINANCIAL RESPONSE The annual meeting of the Parawera Red Cross was held in the Parawera School on Saturday last. Mrs E. H. Houston was re-elected President and Mrs L. R. Kay as the new secretary. Beautiful shoulder sprays were presented to Mrs Houston and Mrs Dick Kay, the retiring secretary. The balance sheet was read and adopted as most satisfactory, the President remarking that it disclosed a wonderful result. She thanked all members for their generous support. A report of the sewing and knitting section was given by Mrs H. O. Kay and was most gratifying. The sales table at a Bring and-Buy during the afternoon yielded £l7 10s 6d. A competition for a pot of jam was won by Mrs L. R. Kay, and that for an apron by Mrs D. Harding. A cushion donated by Mrs J. Parish was won by Master Loftus Wallace, while Mrs L. R. Kay won the teaspoons donated by Mrs Sutton. Donations received, amounting to £ll 16s, included £lO which was given by the Parawera Maoris. The total for the afternoon was £29 6s 6d.
