GAMING CHARGES

CASES AT CAMBRIDGE. In the Cambridge Court on Wednesday, before Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., Cyril Nicholson and Dennis George Kelly pleaded guilty to separate charges of using their premises as common gaming houses. Detective J. Hayes stated that the Police visited the office of Nicholson on Friday evening and a fairly large quantity of betting material was found. A race meeting was being held at Te Rapa next day, for which £4l 15s worth of doubles had been laid Nicholson had been in business for q fairly long time, having been fined £25 for a similar offence in June, 1939. The same evening Kelly’s office had been visited and a fairly large quantity of betting material found. The records showed that £l5. 7s 6d had been taken for doubles. The Magistrate fined Nicholson £75 and Kelly £5O.
