ELECTRIC POWER
AVOIDING RESTRICTIONS. APPEALS TO CONSUMERS. Possible restrictions in the use of electricity throughout the North Island were discussed by the Auckland Electric Power’ Board at a meeting held recently, when a letter from the Electricity Controller was received The board was asked to limit the weekly increase in its load to 21 per cent, on the corresponding week of last year. The aim would be to restrict the total weekly increase for the North Island system to 4 per cent, over the corresponding period of last year, but in some cases the increase might be more or less. In particular cases, added the letter, it might be necessary for an authority to take steps to reduce its load by compulsion if voluntary action was not sufficient. In such cases it might be necessary for the Electric Controller to delegate some of his powers. The board was asked to submit proposals for controlling its load, and if it considered such compulsory action would be necessary in its area.
