There was a fair attendance, those present including Mesdames Meredith, Cullen, Angus, Pearte, Webber, Zohrab, Goodall, Paul, Bevin, Rainey, Chunn, Nelson, McArthur, Jourdain, Dowds, Nicholson, Clark, Cruickshank and Young. Apologies were received from Mesdames S. Clark, Nobes and Lee. The president’s report was read and adopted. The treasurer submitted her statement, which was most satisfactory. The election of officers resulted as follows : Patroness: Mrs C. G. Downes; president, Mrs G. Paul; vice-presidents, Mesdames H. C. Rainey, H. V. Pearte and J. Ryan; secretary, Mrs H. J. Webber; assistant secretary, Mrs G. Angus; treasurer, Mrs F. W. Bevin (re-elected); general committee, Mesdames J. T. Young, G. O. Jourdain, D. McArthur, F. D. Chunn, N. Goodall, H. Meredith, G. Angus and Zohrab; match committee, Mesdames McArthur, Rainey and Zohrab; green superintendent, Mrs Jourdain; social committee, Mesdames Pearte, J. Irwin and Cullen; tea superintendent, Mrs Goodall.

A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs Goodall, the retiring president, for services during the past season; to the Bowling Club for use of the pavilion, and to the local Press for its valuable assistance. PRESIDENT’S REPORT. Reviewing the year ended 1939, I can say at once that it has been successful, and the work of the members which has enabled the Club to end its year so satisfactorily calls forth admiration. Members faced up to the levy of 10s and in other ways assisted financially during the year. May I mention the bring-and-buy stall and many personal individual efforts. All members are deeply appreciative of the action of our patroness, Mrs Downes, and the treasurer, Mrs Bevin, in providing their homes for card parties, which proved very helpful to the club. Mrs Bevin, with her husband and family, also gave a very happy evening. The stress of finance was caused by having to buy an electric lawn mower, and the installation thereof; sundries also caused added expense. However, we have now a valuable asset.

Invitations to the opening days of other clubs and friendly contests have been much enjoyed by all able to take part, and we thank our hostesses on those occasions for their great kindness; also for the lovely luncheons and afternoon teas. The Field Day was a great success, and was much enjoyed. The Committee were grateful to the Match Committee who took control of all matches and gave valuable guidance whenever and wherever needed. Need I say that we were all proud of Mrs Jourdain’s success in winning the Silver Fern at Hamilton? The Te Awamutu players went to Te Kuiti to play for the South Auckland Croquet Association Cup, which they won, and in a return match played at Te Awamutu the Cup was retained. We were also successful in withstanding a challenge for the Impasto Cup. On behalf of the members, I presented a small gift to our greenkeeper, Mr Clark, as a token of appreciation, on the eve of his marriage. May I be allowed at this stage to tender my sincere thinks to Mrs Paul (hon. secretary), Mrs Bevin (hon. treasurer), to the vice-presidents, the committee, and all members of the Club for the assistance and hearty co-operation accorded me throughout the year? 1 would also like to thank and concongratulate the Club members who took part in the parade during Fitness Week. Thanks are also due to donors of prizes for competition during the year, and one must pay a special tribute to Mrs Nobes, for her painstaking work as green superintendent. In conclusion, I would like to thank all friends, known and unknown, who have assisted the Club in so many ways. We have had a successful year, and any effort has been worth while. The lawns have been well looked after, and they are indeed an asset to the Park.
