RUGBY FOOTBALL
KEEN INTEREST AT KAWHIA. It is gratifying to know that insofar as Oparau and Te Awamutu are concerned,. the good old game of Rugby is not likely to sing its “Swan’s Song.” Mutterings from the football W’orld, or the Kawhia portion of it, recently had an ominous sound and from it might be detected something resembling a dealth knell to the game in this district at any rate. It would seem that Oparau is to save the situation and to show by its own enthusiasm the proper spirit to adopt towards the game which, though essentially British, is recognised as a man-developing game and is being adopted in more or less amended or modified forms to suit the ideas of sport hold by practically every nation in Europe. Our American cousins put up a game of a standard equal to our own, and. play it. Te Awamutu holds the reputation for playing fast, open football of the very best type and the match on Saturday should, and probably will, bo a good exhibition of Rugby at its best. Oparau is congratulated and so, of course, is Te Awamutu.
It is only necessary to reinforce the ardour of the teams with public support to revive and reinvigorate Rugby in Kawhia, Oparau, Kinohaku. and all sections of the Kawhia district. TEAMS FOR SATURDAY/ The following team has been chosen to play Te Awamutu juniors at Oparau on Saturday, May 27th:— C. Parkinson, T. Parnell, S. Knight, M. Powhare, R. Wynyard, J. Everiss. M.
